The Challenge Season 42 Episode 7 Release Time (Wed., Sept. 9, 2026): 3 a.m. ET on Paramount+, and the Heat Kit It Was Filmed In
Drop time — The Challenge season 42, episode 7 lands on Paramount+ at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026. It is the only new competition episode on the calendar this week.

Episode 7 is called “You Need Me,” it arrives at 3 a.m. Eastern on Paramount+, and there is no cable airing to wait for — season 42, subtitled Cutthroat, is streaming-only. Because this one was shot in Thailand in the heat, the kit the cast competes in is a short-and-tank setup rather than the long layers that showed up in the Argentina and Croatia seasons. Below: the exact times, what changes when a season films at 90 percent humidity, and what a comparable kit costs right now.

What time does episode 7 drop where you live?

Paramount+ posts new Challenge episodes overnight on Wednesdays, on the same schedule it has used since the Aug. 5 premiere.

Episode 8 follows Sept. 16, episode 9 on Sept. 23, and the season has not published a finale date. If overnight drops are a recurring annoyance for you, our streaming sister site keeps a service-by-service table of release times and a breakdown of which fall shows go weekly versus all at once.

What is the format this season, and why does it matter for wardrobe?

Cutthroat put 24 players into three teams — Blue, Gray and Orange — drafted at the start and playing for a $500,000 pot that a captain divides. Filming took place around Bangkok and in Chonburi Province.

Team color is the reason this season looks different on screen. When production assigns a color, wardrobe stops being a personal choice and becomes a uniform problem: everyone needs the same shade in a cut that works on their body, in enough duplicates to survive a shoot day that ends soaked. That is why you see one silhouette repeated across a dozen people instead of twelve individual looks.

We do not cover eliminations or results here. Our reality sister site handles that side, and its week grid for Sept. 7–13 has the wider picture. What we do cover is the gear: the standing breakdown of a competition-show training kit explains each piece, and how to find workout clothes you see on TV is the method behind every table on this site.

How does filming in Thailand change what the cast wears?

Heat plus humidity removes about half the usual options. A few things follow from that, and they hold for anyone training outdoors in August or September in the American South:

👉 Water challenges add one more constraint: elastane degrades in salt, so the pair you swim in should not be the pair you plan to keep for two years.

What does a comparable kit cost right now?

Prices came off each brand's own site on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, at about 11:55 p.m. ET. None of this is a claim about what any specific player wore — competition series almost never publish wardrobe credits, and when a brand does outfit a season it announces the deal. No such announcement exists for Cutthroat. These are close matches in cut and fabric.

TierHigh-rise short, blackPriceNotes
BudgetBubblelime High Waist 8″ Shorts with Side Pockets$20.98Longest inseam of the three, side pockets, XS–XL. Thinner hand-feel than the others.
MidPOPFLEX Crisscross Hourglass Biker Shortfrom $48.00Contoured waistband, XXS–3X. Black was showing sold out at our check — the Cadence Short at $56 was the in-stock alternative.
PremiumGirlfriend Collective High-Rise Bike Short$68.00Genuinely compressive rather than merely thick. Pocket version $78; the Compressive Pocket Run Short is also $78.

Roughly $20 buys you a second pair so laundry day is survivable. Around $68 buys compression that still holds after a season of washing. Between those two numbers the difference is mostly waistband engineering, which sounds trivial until a band rolls halfway through a set. Our sizing site has measured how far brands drift from each other on labels: XS, 1X or 6XL is worth two minutes before you order, and inseam by height answers the 5-versus-8-inch question better than a size chart does.

Is a short or a legging the better buy for late-summer training?

Depends where you are. Anywhere still running above 80°F through September, the short wins and it is not close. In a climate-controlled gym, the legging is more versatile because it covers the shin on box jumps and rower rails.

If you are buying one item and only one, buy the short now and the legging in six weeks, when it will also be on sale. The temperature chart our running site uses maps the crossover at around 62°F for most people, and our deals desk keeps a buy price for each store so you know whether a markdown is real.

Can you watch without a Paramount+ subscription?

Not legitimately, no. Cutthroat is a Paramount+ original with no linear MTV simulcast, which is a change from earlier seasons and the single most common complaint in the show's forums this summer. Free trials come and go; current plan pricing across every major service sits in this month's price roundup.

What else should competition fans have on the calendar?

Wednesday is quiet apart from this one drop, and then the fall wave hits. Dancing with the Stars season 35 now has a confirmed two-night premiere — Tuesday, Sept. 15 and Wednesday, Sept. 16, both at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+, streaming on Hulu the next day. Survivor 51 opens Sept. 23 with an episode titled “Permanent Uncertainty.”

Our running list of dates and the gear that goes with each show sits in Competition Shows This Week, and the broader fall 2026 reality guide covers everything outside our lane. For the pieces that are not workout clothes — the ballroom costumes, the red carpets — our style sister site explains how TV wardrobes actually get assembled.
